March’s very successful and popular Summer Festival kicks off on Friday evening (10th June) There will be music from younger bands on the Friday evening, followed on Saturday by the Grand Festival Parade which sets off from noon through the town centre and will feature classic cars and floats. Later in the day there will be the Lions Gala in West End Park which will have stalls and activities for all the family including Irish dancing and a fancy dress competition! Pop in the Park takes over late afternoon with more music from local groups culminating in a performance by the 1960s tribute band the 6Ts.
On Sunday the 12th June there will be more music from noon with Picnic in the Park until the evening, including Jazz and Swing, along with lots of activities in the family arena from 1pm till 3.30pm – including a colouring competition, face painting, circus skills and a vegetable themed activity by Madame Zucchini!! (she stayed with us this weekend, didnt see any of her veg though lol) There is also a dog show and the finale concert finishing a busy fun weekend!
We at Fourwinds B&B and campsite are also getting into the celebratory spirit this weekend to wish the Queen a very happy 90th Birthday. Any guests that are staying with us are invited to a cream tea in the garden on Saturday afternoon, with all the usual trappings of bunting, scones and clotted cream, Victoria sponge cake, coronation chicken sandwiches ….. etc etc. We are running a garden party hat competition to top off the afternoon on site!
So if you haven’t booked anything for this weekend and want to come and join in all that is going on in our Fenland town, give us a ring on 01354 658737 and book a campsite pitch for your caravan, camper van or tent. You can also avail of our canoe hire facility and paddle into town to enjoy the atmosphere. We have some bed and breakfast availability left for the Friday night (the rest of the weekend already fully booked).
We have lived here for 4 and a half years and are still amazed by the big skies and beautiful sunrises and sunsets in the Fens – a great advantage of the unique flat lands and rivers we have here. So I hope you enjoy these pics taken over the last few days while messing about on the river at Whittlesey and Benwick.
Check out our cycling page for the great family fun cycling activities available this summer from Fourwinds bought to you by Duo-Velo.
‘Duo-Velo Cycle Coaching & Events are a team of two – Theresa & Darren. We are everything cycling. From 18mths to 81yrs+, we specialise in the first pedal strokes to your next goal. We teach children to ride in schools & are the world’s first & only licensed Mobile Sufferfest Embassy for the world renowned indoor cycle training company The Sufferfest. It’s an achievement we are extremely proud of.
We want you to love cycling as much as we do & have put together a programme of both fun & educational cycling that everyone can enjoy.
If we had to describe us? Well ‘technically’ we are middle aged – but in our hearts we will be forever young as we are amongst the few who are getting to live their dream of working with each other in a sport they are passionate about. We laugh A LOT and enjoy everything we possibly can. We also like to talk – A LOT!! So if you want a chin-wag head our way…
Once the summer is over we will continue to the next phase of our dream of owning & living aboard our own Houseboat here in the beautiful Fenlands.
We are joining the team at Fourwinds this summer with the ultimate aim of ensuring you have the best holiday ever!! It’s a world away from our life before starting Duo-Velo Cycle Coaching & Events & we are delighted that John & Bev have welcomed us to the team to share our love of cycling with you all.
We can’t wait to meet you – so take a look at our cycling trips & come ride with us!
We had four seasons and four winds in a few days on the campsite this Easter, which left one caravan awning trying to fly to warmer climes, 3 canoeists working hard to paddle against the wind, one camper van stuck in the mud and in between a bit of sitting in the sun and enjoying blue skies on a river walk! …… Hope you all had a great Easter weekend where ever the wind blew you!
Camping field update – we are not able to open the main field for another little bit yet due to the heavy rain we had over the weekend. It seems we are in for a dry spell this week so hopefully it wont be too long before we see some tents going up and camp fires lit. We will keep you posted.
We are open at Easter on our hard standings and the camping field will follow on within the first couple of weeks in April – (we are just waiting for the ground to firm up a little more)
We are very lucky to be helped by Annie and Rob who have joined us for the summer as Assistant Wardens. They will also be joined shortly by Theresa and Darren who will be using their cycling expertise to offer our guests additional activities during their stay (watch this space)
